In a short period of time, Drake, born Aubrey Drake Graham has made a solid name for himself in the rap and hip hop music writing and performing genre. His success with lyrics and beats has captured the attention of numerous artists who want to either perform with him or have Drake participate in collaborative projects. He has worked with the likes Trey Songz, Alica Keys, Lil Wayne and Kanye West. He has performed with Jay-Z, the Kings of Leon and the Dream.
Music wasn't how he first came to fans attention. Drake was originally known for his television role as Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi: The Next Generation – a popular television series in Canada. He appeared in over 139 episodes. His character was eventually eliminated through graduation from high school but that didn't stop the musician at heart. Drake grabbed some notoriety with his self-produced mixtapes that demonstrated his talents on both the mike and with song writing.
The attention propelled his signing with Young Money Entertainment – a concern run by Lil Wayne. His freshman effort 'Thank Me Later' swooned the competition and went immediately to No. 1 on the Billboard charts in 2010.
The Toronto native shuttled back and forth between the city where his mother raised him and Memphis, Tennessee to spend the summers with his father. Somewhere along the line, he developed into one of the Kentucky Wildcats basketball fans. From time to time, he makes certain that he appears for all their big tournaments and important outings.
His sophomore album 'Take Care' was released in late 2011. While his music career has been soaring with requests to collaborate and associations with top performers like Rhianna, Drake continues to get request to appear on television and on film. He had to turn down an opportunity to work with Susan Sarandon because he need to finish his next album and he voices the character of Ethan in the fourth edition of the animated franchise Ice Age.
