Chyna is best known as a professional wrestler, but is also an actress, bodybuilder and a pornographic film actress. She became famous when she featured in the WWF in 1997 and was referred to as the Ninth Wonder of the World.
Actress and professional wrestler Chyna was born in Rochester, New York under the name Joan Marie Laurer. Her childhood was quite turbulent, since her parents divorced when she was only four years old. Throughout her childhood she had three different stepfathers and one stepmother. Chyna also claimed that her first stepfather threatened with suicide, while another stabbed her mother in the thigh with a bread knife. During her unstable childhood, Chyna, her sisters and her mother moved several times.
Chyna seemed quite a talented child and played both the violin and cello, however, her tumultuous childhood was far from over. In the seventh grade, Chyna was sexually harassed by an older teacher at school. She also struggled with an eating disorder at the age of thirteen and left home at the age of sixteen. Her mother tried to force her in rehab shortly after.
The now successful actress started working out insanely around her sixteenth birthday. Due to her overdeveloped abdominal muscles, she could not feel the pain of the ovarian tumor that had started to develop.
Even though Chyna is doing okay now, trouble seemed to follow her wherever she went. She was raped by two men at a party during college, but she bravely tried to get her life back on track. After a number of jobs, Chyna began to enter various fitness competitions, but with little success. Only after she trained at a professional wrestling school in Massachusetts, success followed. Chyna met famous wrestlers Triple H and Shawn Michaels and they decided to bring her into the WWF as a bodyguard, her first stepping stone to fame.
