His fans don't mind being called Parrotheads because Jimmy Buffet, the American popular singer songwriter, producer, author and businessman has been performing for over forty years. His style and his Margaritaville Brand, named after his hit single song Margaritaville, has been the gold standard in accumulating his wealth resulting in his net worth of $859,132,000.
His friend Emeril Lagasse, the super star chef of the Food Network, told him that some of the best nights he had at his restaurant were when Buffet was performing at the MGM Grand Garden Arena next door to his MGM Grand restaurant. Buffet began making inquiries with Harrah Entertainment, now Caesars Entertainment, and his famous Margaritaville restaurant chain was born. Currently there are fifteen Margaritaville restaurants in the U.S. and the Caribbean.
But he began cashing in on his Margaritaville Brand before his famous restaurants in 1985 when he opened a Margaritaville retail store and two years later the Margaritaville Café in Key West, Florida. He realized early on that this was his ticket to fortune, for the Margaritaville Brand is recognized around the world.
Touring continues to take most of time and has made him a rich man. His mobs of laid back fans, called Parrotheads, are devoted to him and fill the 20-30 concert venues a year wherever he performs. In the 1980’s he made more money touring than from all his albums.
Buffet is known for taking full advantage of his name recognition in entertainment and business ventures, and he applied this in the publishing world as well. He wrote three books of which two become number one best sellers and stayed on the New York Times bestseller list for non-fiction for an astounding seven months. Both Tales from Margaritaville and Where is Joe Merchant brought him fame and fortune in the book publishing business.
